BFV STATE AWARDS 2016

BFV STATE AWARDS PRESENTATION 2016

The Bocce Victoria 2016 Gala Presentation luncheon was hosted this year at the Fogolar Furlan Club with MC for the afternoon Mary Massena who kept the presentation pacey and entertaining. The event organiser Marcella Giacomin did another fabulous job in the arrangement of the venue and in bringing together of the sponsors and people.

Although their was a smaller representation from the Metro Clubs theire was a strong turn out from Regional Victoria from NEBA, Tatura, Kyabram and Shepparton along with Morwell. The MC of the day Mary Massena opened the function and welcomed all the special guests, which included BFA President - Raymond & Lina Cher, the BFV Life members Fernando & Connie Cardinale, Serio DeRosa, Adelia Pase and Gino Montuoro & wife. Most of the Victorian State representative players from Morwell, NEBA, NAT U35 & Metro Vic were present along with the Vic juniors. With many family and friends present it made for a fun afternoon of many stories mainly bocce and of the games narrowly won and lost being retold many times.

Frank Funari, President Bocce Victoria in his speech welcomed everyone and went on to recount the fabulous performance of all Victorians at the recent Australian Bocce Championships in Sydney whereby Victoria   were on 14 out of the 15 podium presentation stands, making this the best year ever for Victoria at any Nationals. This   fantastic performance cemented Victoria as the home of good strong bocce competition and one that all Victorian bocce enthusiasts should be proud to support. The next season scheduled to start in September promises to be bigger and better than the recent with the introduction of the Bocce Smash and more prize pool Interclub competitions. The Bocce Smash will be a major strategic focus and one that is supported by the Victorian Government’s Department of Sport Victoria. Mr Funari mentioned that more information will come out in the coming months and to watch this space. Some of the milestone achievements this past year have been the Furlan Club School Holiday program run by Adelia Pase, the Junior Asia/Oceania Invitional Championships sponsored by Casa D’Abruzzo thanks to the support of Club President Fernando Cardinale, which again this year we experienced the largest spread of junior player participation including China, not seen for some years. In summary Mr Funari mentioned how excited he was that the BFV have taken the first steps and created a vision that we all can work towards. With this philosophy, the BFV took some brave steps as we stretched the traditional boundaries and ventured out to new clubs such as the Brunswick East Bocce club where we hosted the BFV Bocce Open; introduced the inaugural Bass Strait Trophy with Tasmania, one that will be an exciting annual event; took Metro bocce back to the regions with the BFV State Championship; and set the pathway for the start of an exciting new format of the game with the ‘Bocce Smash’ set to start later in 2016.

Mr Funari also thanked the many sponsors that supported bocce throughout the year in particular today’s Presentation Sponsors Basilica Funerals and John Stonemart Memorials. The raffle was well supported with prizes from the many sponsors such as Bon Foods, Bunning’s from Mill Park, Good Guys Thomastown, Aumans Nursery South Morang, Office Works Bundoora, My Chemist Glenroy, Continental Imports, Enzo Costanzo, Pizza Italia and Yvette Giacomin from Emprint.

Also a big thanks to the BFV major sponsors during the year such as Casa D’Abruzzo Club, Dino Mikolic constructions, Bon Foods Divella Pasta, Henty Holdings, Australian Sports Commission, Sport & Rec Victoria, Bell City, Narkoojee Wines, and Biviano Fresh Fruit who help bocce again this year. But above all a big thanks to all the bocce volunteers that every week help run a bocce event somewhere in Victoria.

BFA President Raymond Cher in his speech made mention of the Raffa Masters in China and the juniors that are to represent Australia at the World titles in Monaco in December 2016
