2011 World C'ships Feltre, Italy

Congratulations to the Australian Men's Bocce Team who achieved top 8 rankings at the 2011 World Championships Held in Feltre, Italy from 4 - 11 September.


The Championships attracted 38 participating nations and thousands of spectators. From left to right in photo, the Australian Team comprised of Fitness specialist Fernando Solis (VIC), player Stefano Chiandotto (NSW), Coach Tony Biancacci, player Santo Pascuzzi (VIC) and Tony Borrelli (VIC).


The highlight of the championships for the Australian team was qualifying first in their pool for the traditional Singles & Doubles events respectively. In the fast paced Progressive Throw event Victorian SantoPascuzzi equalled with Croatian Leo Brnic and was ranked 5th overall in the quarterfinals with a score of 36 hits from 47 throws in the 5 minute contest, Santo'squarter-finals run didn't allow him a place in the semi-finals.


In the singles event, Australian Stefano Chiandotto played a couple of solid games in the qualifying rounds to top the group, however he was beaten byTunisian Zaidi 13 - 4 in the knockout stage and didn't progress.Stefano Chiandotto also paired with Victorian Tony Borrelli in the Doubles event and were denied a place in the semi-finals by the Algerian team.In the combined event (Bowl/Throw), Pascuzzi narrowly lost to Slovenian Tonejc in the knockout stage 26 - 24.


Overall, it was a good preformance by all members of the team lead by Tony Biancacci and fitness trainer Fernando Solis.
